SEO takes time. Here is what the first 6 months actually look like.

admin June 1, 2026

If someone tells you they can get you to page one of Google in 30 days, run. SEO does not work that way. It takes time, it takes consistency, and anyone who promises overnight results is either lying or using tactics that will get your site penalized.

But here is the thing. SEO is worth the wait. It is the only marketing channel where the results compound over time instead of disappearing the moment you stop paying.

Let me walk you through what the first six months actually look like when we do SEO for a client.

Month 1: The audit

We start by looking at everything that is broken. Technical issues, missing meta tags, slow page speed, duplicate content, broken links. Most small business websites have 30 to 50 technical issues that need fixing before anything else matters.

We also look at your Google Business Profile. For local businesses, this is just as important as your website. Most profiles are half empty. No photos, missing categories, no reviews strategy. We fix all of that in the first few weeks.

You will not see ranking changes in month one. That is normal.

Month 2-3: Content and structure

This is where we build the foundation. We create dedicated pages for every service you offer, optimized for the exact searches your customers are making. We also start a content strategy, writing articles that answer the questions your customers are typing into Google.

By the end of month three, you might start seeing some movement. Pages that were on page 5 might move to page 3. Some long-tail keywords might start bringing in a few visitors. It is early, but the foundation is in place.

Month 4-5: Momentum builds

This is when things start to click. The content you published in months two and three has been indexed by Google. Your technical fixes have had time to take effect. Your Google Business Profile is getting more views and more calls.

You will start seeing organic traffic increase. Maybe 30 to 50 percent more visitors than when you started. Some of your target keywords will move to page one. Not all of them yet, but enough to show the strategy is working.

Month 6: Real results

By month six, you should see meaningful results. For most of our clients, that means ranking in the top 10 for at least half their target keywords. Organic traffic is up significantly. And the best part is that these visitors are free. No ad spend required.

One of our clients, a dermatology clinic in New York, went from page 4 to top 3 for 12 high-value keywords in six months. Their organic traffic increased by 340 percent and they cut their ad spend by 60 percent.

SEO is the only marketing channel where the results compound over time instead of disappearing the moment you stop paying.

The real question

SEO is not about whether it works. It works. The real question is whether you have the patience to stick with it for six months before expecting results. Most businesses give up after two months because they do not see immediate changes.

The businesses that win at SEO are the ones that commit to the process and stay consistent. It is not exciting, but it is very effective.
